Learning Series: Unlocking Easier Access for Indonesian Exports to the EU

(Business Lounge Journal – Foreign Insight)

We sat down and interviewed H.E. Denis Chaibi, the European Union Ambassador to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam, we explored in deep the Indonesia–EU Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA).

Ambassador Chaibi highlighted how the agreement could unlock new opportunities for Indonesian industries by offering lower tariffs, clear regulatory frameworks, and reduced trade barriers.

One of the sectors we discussed in detail was the coffee industry — a field where Indonesia holds both cultural heritage and global competitive strength. With the EU being one of the world’s largest coffee consumers, IEU-CEPA can pave the way for Indonesian producers, even smallholders and specialty coffee SMEs, to tap into EU markets.

Our discussion underscored the importance of preparedness, sustainability, and innovation for Indonesia to fully capitalize on these emerging export opportunities and strengthen its position within the EU market.
