On June 2, 2026, Kazakhstan and Indonesia celebrated the 33rd anniversary of their diplomatic relations, a partnership that Ambassador Serzhan Abdykarimov described as being at its “peak of cooperation.” Kazakhstan views Indonesia as a key partner in Southeast Asia and ASEAN, with ties spanning politics, economics, education, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.

Ambassador Abdykarimov highlighted Kazakhstan’s economic foundation, built on five pillars: energy and natural resources, industry and manufacturing, transport and logistics, agriculture, and the services/digital economy. With over 5,000 mineral deposits valued at more than USD 46 trillion, Kazakhstan has attracted over USD 450 billion in foreign direct investment, primarily from Europe, China, Russia, and the United States.

Digitalization and artificial intelligence are now national priorities, with Kazakhstan aiming to become a fully digital power within three years. At the same time, the country is positioning itself as a diversified, investment-oriented economy, offering opportunities in manufacturing, agro-industrial development, logistics, and critical minerals such as uranium and rare earths.

For Indonesia, Ambassador Abdykarimov emphasized areas of synergy: Kazakhstan’s energy sector, particularly uranium for Indonesia’s planned nuclear power plant; agriculture and food security through grain and wheat exports; mining and metallurgy; transport connectivity; and growing cooperation in education and tourism. He noted that eleven Kazakh universities recently participated in a fair in Jakarta, offering exchange programs and scholarships for Indonesian students.

“Kazakhstan invites Indonesian businesses to jointly invest in exploration and production of critical minerals for new industries and technologies like EVs and semiconductors,” the Ambassador stated, underscoring the potential for deeper collaboration.

As both nations look ahead, their partnership is set to expand across strategic sectors, reinforcing Kazakhstan’s role as a gateway to Central Asia and Indonesia’s growing influence in the global economy.
