Cyprus is rapidly emerging as one of Europe’s most dynamic innovation ecosystems. Under the leadership of Chief Scientist Demetris Skourides, the country has climbed from 28th to 25th place in the Global Innovation Index, reflecting steady progress in research, technology, and startup development.
The country’s innovation momentum extends beyond a single ranking. Cyprus has become one of the fastest-growing startup ecosystems in Southern Europe, supported by government-backed innovation initiatives, increasing venture capital activity, and a thriving ICT sector that contributes approximately 14% of the country’s gross value added.
As an EU member state strategically located at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, Cyprus offers technology companies direct access to the European Single Market, a business-friendly regulatory environment, competitive tax incentives, and a highly skilled international workforce.
For Indonesian startups and technology companies, Cyprus presents an attractive opportunity to establish a European presence. Rather than entering larger and more complex markets immediately, businesses can use Cyprus as a launchpad into the EU while accessing research funding opportunities, innovation incentives, strategic partnerships, and a regulatory framework aligned with European standards.
As Cyprus continues to strengthen its innovation ecosystem, it is positioning itself as an emerging global tech hub and a strategic bridge connecting Southeast Asian innovation with opportunities across Europe.
